Del Norte Little League
Regular Season Team Selection
Attendance
Each divisional draft is attended by the League President, Vice President, Registration Coordinator, Player Agent, Team Managers, and other designated Board Members as assigned.
Other coaches, parents and players are prohibited from attending the draft.
Player Agent
The player agent is responsible for overseeing and moderating the draft proceedings. Managers should communicate special circumstances to the player agent that may need consideration prior to the draft to ensure the Little League board can be consulted if necessary. Should a manager be unable to make the draft they must submit their draft order to the League President who will appoint a board member to draft in that order. At any point during the draft the player agent may stop the draft to consult members of the league board. Should the need arise during the draft proceedings the league president or a designated board member will communicate with parents of players. All draft decisions made by the player agent are final.
Registration Coordinator
Prior to the start of the draft the registration coordinator will provide the player agent the complete draft pool and hat pick pool for the divisional draft. Under the direction of the player agent the registration coordinator will record the draft as well as trades. Following the draft, the registration coordinator will organize and communicate system generated reports of the final teams to the player agent.
Confidentiality
The draft is kept completely confidential, including skills evaluation results, player draft order and trades. Each individual attending the draft is responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of the draft and draft materials. Failure to maintain confidentiality can result in suspension.
Evaluations
Evaluations are the responsibility of each manager. The player agent will evaluate all players in the draft pool in case he or she is required to perform the draft duties for any team.
Comments
Draft attendees are prohibited from making comments or sharing personal opinions about any draft candidate, including but not limited to, a players perceived skill level.
For the 2023 Season- all teams will be re-drafted. Future seasons, all teams in the MAJORS Division and above will stay together. Players will remain on the same team until they move to a higher division, or age out.
Draft Pool
The draft pool consists of players who attended at least one of the league evaluation sessions. League age 7-year-old players are not eligible for the minor player pitch division without attending a league evaluation session.
Divisional Draft Requirements
- All eligible players league age 14-16 will be drafted to a Senior division team.
- All eligible players league age 13 will be drafted to either a Senior or Intermediate division team.
- All eligible players league age 12 will be drafted to either a Senior, Intermediate or Major division team.
- All eligible players league age 11 will be drafted to either an Intermediate or Major division team.
Draft Order and Methodology
· Draft order will be determined on the draft day by random draw with all managers present.
· Draft will be a snake draft (1-2-3-4-5-6, 6-5-4-3-2-1, 1-2-3….)
· Draft picks will be announced by tryout number and player placed on the draft board by the Player Agent or Draft Coordinator.
· It is recommended that managers not select more than eight players in a given age group.
Draft Pool and Player Eligibility
· There will be a single draft pool consisting of all eligible players who attended at least 1 tryout.
o League age 7-year-old players are not eligible for the Minor Player-Pitch division without attending a league evaluation session.
o League age 9-year-olds are not eligible for the Major division without attending a league evaluation session.
o League age 11-year-olds are not eligible for the Intermediate division without attending a league evaluation session.
o League age 12-year-olds are not eligible for the Senior division without attending a league evaluation session.
· No player will be drafted into a league lower than they played last year.
· Players who did not attend a tryout will be “hat picks” if the Board approved the excuse for missing tryouts. Managers will blindly draw slips of paper.
· Players without an approved excuse will be waitlisted until an evaluation can be arranged, draft order will continue from original draft night.
· The number of players on a roster shall not vary by more than one.
Draft Options
· Manager’s child is slotted into draft round based on the rules for that division.
· Manager must draft prospective coach’s child.
o Coaches will not be appointed by the President until after the draft is complete. The coach must then be approved by the Executive Board.
· Manager may declare a Sibling Option upon the drafting of one of two siblings. The other sibling must then be drafted in the next possible round by that manager.
· Managers may also choose not to exercise a sibling option when drafting one of two siblings, which would leave a sibling to be drafted by another team or selected in a later discretionary draft pick.
Parent Requests
· Player/Coach requests will only be accepted for the Tee Ball and Coach-Pitch Divisions. The Player Agent will determine which parent requests to enforce at the draft.
· Parents are allowed to request that siblings/family living at the same residence be drafted onto the same team. If a manager drafts one of the siblings, they will be encouraged to draft the other in the next round even if the manager does not use the sibling option.
· Parents are allowed to request that their child is not drafted by a specific Manager based on specific past incidents. The Player Agent has discretion whether this request shall be enforced or not based on the merits of the request.
Any eligible player who qualifies and becomes available after player assignment should be assigned to a team or placed on a waiting list created by the registration coordinator and player agent.
